ART BASEL 2024

Today I'm offering you a tasty art world morsel: a curated selection of some of my favorite artworks headed to the revered Art Basel art fair.

Started in Basel, Switzerland in 1970, this fair has become a worldwide art phenomenon, now with iterations in Paris, Hong Kong, and Miami Beach. The original Swiss event reigns supreme among them all, with top collectors, curators and art world professionals flocking to this sleepy European town to eat a diet of white asparagus in rustic accommodations so they can see some of the greatest modern and contemporary artworks available on the private market.

287 galleries will exhibit at the fair this year, and over the past two weeks I have been receiving slide decks called previews from various galleries containing images of the artworks they will show. I have selected 24 of my favorite presenting galleries and culled the artworks among them that especially caught my eye, and have compiled them into my own preview.

As you will see, the preview is sorted into categories of themes I have extracted from my analysis: Abstract Expressionism + Contemporary Interpretations, Figuration in Various Forms, Inventive Nature + Landscape and Geometry + The Grid. You will also see which galleries feature which artworks, and in many cases, you will see the asking prices. I have also included an Artist Spotlight section at the end, featuring an artist I'm particularly excited about: Antonio Tarsis.

I hope you will enjoy this dose of art world insight. Something to note is that many people will buy art from these previews without seeing the work in person ahead of the fair, because there is so much demand and urgency to acquire great pieces in the short art fair window. As an advisor, I make sure my clients are well prepared and feel empowered to make quick decisions and pull the trigger when they see something they like, and that starts with a lot of looking! So, if you see any artwork(s) you like and want more information, please feel free to ask. The art world can be mysterious, and I'm here to clarify.

Cheers to looking at great art,

Laura
